DS is now eating 3 meals a day and only breastfeeding 5 days a day. He sleeps through the night and I pump before I go to bed. I have been on the mini pill since 6 weeks postpartum. Should I look into getting on the regular pill? Or an IUD? I am worried because I read the mini pill doesn’t work as well once a baby isn’t breastfeeding around the clock. I have been on the mini pill before and it has always been effective but I have never been on it this long (7 months postpartum).
If you have issues taking it at the same time every day (which is no knock on you - I would have problems too!), I would definitely switch to a more reliable form of birth control. I got a Mirena IUD 10 weeks postpartum and love it.
Yup this. If you don't want to risk a pregnancy now you either a) make sure you take that pill at the same time every day or b) find an alternative form of birth control You're a mom now, time to be a grown up.
Op here - thanks I have 3 kids and have been a mom for a while now. My Ob has always just told me while I am breastfeeding to use the mini pill. I used it with my other two kids with no problem but have never breastfed this long so I was sure. I never even had my 6 week checkup since it was the middle of quarantine.
Wow, really? I delivered my second child in May - super easy delivery, no complications - and I was still asked to come in to the office for the 6w post-partum visit.
