Parents, one thing to remember, as the NBC item pointed out: These hackers who want ransom generally do not toss stolen info online at first. They will publish some stuff to prove that they did indeed get access to actual information but it's not in their interest at this point to do more with the data while they're waiting to see if there will be a payment. Not sure what happens next, but it is NOT unprecedented for schools to pay ransoms for data. A university iin California paid to get back access to research data that had been locked by hackers. I think that a North Carolina school district also paid ransom after a hack. [/quote]
