She certainly doesn't need to do work with me. She's intelligent and conscientious, and will do all work assigned. But 5 hours of mandatory, on-screen attendance and interaction 5 days a week is a LOT, and is unnecessary for capable students who can manage independent work and learning on their own. Schools need to have flexibility to create instruction that works for their students. Perhaps some high school students need to be required to show their faces so teachers know they are listening to the lectures and to force them to pay attention to the material. Perhaps some students will not do any outside work and require this as a means of being sure they are 'doing distance learning" but not all students need this.[/quote]
