Like me, it sounds like you make weight loss very emotionally complicated. That's great that you want to change. I was really helped by Dr. Judith Beck's weight loss books. Helps you get into the mindset of keeping it off forever. Good luck.
Not even sure how to respond. This has nothing to do with emotions. I need to be a certain weight to have surgery.
the journey between here (obesity) and there (low enough weight for surgery) is about emotions in large part because it is often emotions that are driving us to eat. I think your doctor is pretty emotionally insensitive for refusing to record your self-reported weight loss, but, truth be told, your doctor doesn’t really care that you lost 5 pounds. The doctor only cares when you show up to be weighed in the office at a weight at or below the target for surgery.
I don’t care about her or my emotions about 5 lbs. I care about the surgery. But my doctor is not doing office visits at this time. So I can’t just show up to be weighed. And they won’t schedule my surgery until I show that I lost 20 lbs total. Before than pandemic, there was this huge pressure to get me scheduled. Now, the attitude seems to be that I’m SOL because I won’t be able to self-confirm my weight.
Call back and ask to come up with a plan. Explain that you are worried about being able to schedule the surgery and ask how she wants you to track your weight loss so you can be focused on the upcoming surgery.
