In a press release on Monday, Montgomery Parks listed soccer as high-risk. Melissa Chotiner, spokeswoman for Montgomery Parks, told Bethesda Beat Wednesday morning that soccer was mistakenly listed as a high-risk sport in the release.
Forgive me - but I am so confused by all this. Does this mean that moco teams can now scrimmage? Or are they still limited to no contact drills. Soccer is medium risk but not allowed until phase 3. High risk sports are limited to no contact drills. This doesn’t seem to directly address what is allowed right now for soccer. And does this mean that now lacrosse and field hockey can play full games in Montgomery county but not soccer?
+1?
No. Poncho75 is just confusing everyone by posting old or unrelated information. Pancho, please stop. While you think you’re trying to be helpful, you’re just causing additional confusion. As of today, MoCo is still not allowing soccer games or scrimmages and considered it as high risk.
Just posted this in the thread about the county order but thought it was also worth adding here. Marc Elrich just sent an email to county residents that says: "Access to athletic fields to allow youth and adult games and tournaments for low- and medium-risk sports for groups of 50 or less is being expanded by Montgomery Parks, which is part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. Fields at local parks are currently available and fields at regional and recreational parks will be available starting Tuesday, Sept. 1. Games and tournaments were canceled in March due to the COVID-19 health crisis. High-risk sports games, such as football and rugby, are not permitted at this time. Practice and skill-building drills for high-risk sports are permitted. Sports are categorized by risk by the Maryland Sports Commission Return to Play Committee Report. " The bolded is a link to the June 5, 2020 report that very clearly lists soccer as medium risk. To me, that says they've reverted to their prior position and perhaps games will be allowed in Moco this fall?
