Re: medical leave -- are you aware of the family leave requirements under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act?
Up to an additional 10 weeks of paid expanded family and medical leave at two-thirds the employee’s regular rate of pay where an employee, who has been employed for at least 30 calendar days, is unable to work due to a bona fide need for leave to care for a child whose school or child care provider is closed or unavailable for reasons related to COVID-19.
https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/pandemic/ffcra-employee-paid-leave If you are not able to take this leave, can your husband take some? I have colleagues who have been able to take 10 hours per week of leave under this plan. Any way he could cut down hours and flex his time? I think -- since you are effectively the full time caregiver for child #2 right now -- that your husband needs to figure out how to do a good chunk of the caregiving for child #1. Of the options you presented, I like the idea of a HS or college-aged sitter the best. It would be the most flexible to change up -- you could work with the sitter over the summer and then change up if your needs change in the fall. What if your husband worked 6-8, took care of the 2.5 yo from 8-10, and then you had a sitter from 10-3 daily? Or alternately he could make up the 2 extra hours in the evening. That would give him 7 work hours per day; then he could charge the other 5 to the family leave, if he has that available. When is the baby due?
