OP here. Daytime crate time is really what I need when I need to be on a call, focused, and or on a video call and I cannot watch him. I have tried to plan these times with his naps to no avail. When he is sleeping and at my feet, I am 100% ok with that. But he needs to be safe when I cannot give him attention and the crate is my only option there.
You shouldn’t be letting him sleep at your feet! he’s confused and doesn’t know why you won’t let him sleep at your feet all the time. He’s like a baby and wants to be near you all the time. All his naps need to be in his crate. No exceptions. Put him in, say nap time and put a blanket over most of the crate (I leave the bottom 4” inches open for fresh air.
I have been doing daytime crate when he is drowsy or already asleep but he just wakes to a fury and never settles down again. I leave him for about an hour (shorter than the typical nap) and then let him out. He ends up sleeping outside the crate. If I leave him to cry it out during the day, am I teaching him to hate the crate more and be more aggressive the next time he is in there?
