My sophomore UMD daughter had a few friends in FC last year. FC kids take classes at night, which prevented them from being involved in a lot of activities. The kids have since acclimated fine. Also, I am on a UMD parents FB page and the parents of FC kids have complained that they thought their kids would get extra help and support from UMD but did not. Good luck to your child!
My DH teaches at least one FC class a year and really likes them. For whatever reason, he says that on the whole, the FC students are more engaged and serious than students in his other 100-level classes. Teaching in the early evening is not his favorite, but since our own kids are older, it's not an issue for us. I have never heard that UMd promises more help and support for FC students, but all the usual supports are available to them like any other student. The classes do tend to be smaller, so they can actually get to know the professors better if they put in the effort.
