There is absolutely no originality here. Why do people pay attention to this woman?
Because she feeds into their "mom guilt".
No. Not guilt. Narcissism. As people moved out of rural areas into cities, they became more narcissistic by necessity. I don't mean grandiose or that they think they are amazing, more that people feel that what they signal to other people about "who they are" is more important than who they actually are. As people moved into bigger populations, fewer people know who you actually are, and so you only have a few seconds or maybe a few minutes to make an impression. So, if the impression you want to make is, "I am a good mother," then you have to enroll your kids in all the things, dress them a certain way, and push them to succeed. As someone mentioned above, mothers now are the second generation of this, so it's even worse than it was with our own mothers. People like the DCUM population like this woman because she is saying that these mothers that signal immediately as good mothers are actually terrible mothers and "their kids suck." So, send this link around to all of your mom friends so that they know that there is a new way to signal being an amazing mother, and that way is to take a break and have a drink sometimes. I am not saying that you shouldn't have a drink sometimes. Of course you should. But to say that you are doing it BECAUSE you are a good mother is insane. Almost as insane as taking parenting advice from a lady whose big claim to fame is struggling with mental illness and being active on social media, not studying parent-child relationships or child development.
