Despite the naysayers who believe all kids should learning reading entirely by osmosis, yes, you should work with him.  Make it fun.  Don't let it take over his life.  But it is helpful to spend 20 minutes a day working on pre-reading or early reading skills so that he has the tools when he is ready to start reading.  [/quote]
