Actually rescues prefer people's kids to be at least 12 so you can take the dumb policy up with them.

NP but this is not true that most of them restrict you from adopting if you have kids under 12.  You can adopt, but only puppies.  I was also told they make exceptions if the dog's personality is well known (i.e. it's been fostered with kids of similar ages and has been okay), but with young kids they really want you to adopt a puppy.[/quote]
