There used to be lots of different fire companies - especially in the big cities. They had a logo that would go on the brick outside your house. If your house caught fire and the wrong fire truck was nearby, you were out of luck. If you were too poor to pay for the fire companies you were also out of luck. It sounds a lot like privatized heath insurance today. [/quote]
