GC - Accepted Dematha - Accepted McNamara - Accepted I live closer to McNamara. With boy/girl twins, if my son prefers Dematha, that’s two different schools! Smh
Oh that's tough (and a great problem to have!). I have two friends who let their twins choose different high schools, and for what its worth, they are both really happy with how it is working out for the kids.
Daughter wants Good Counsel and son wants Dematha and we live the closest to McNamara. I told my daughter her bus ride will be brutal. She said I’ll have a car at 16. I said really? Whatever!
We may be right there with you on the split commute! My son's first choice was Dematha and he's there now with a commute from Bethesda. For next year, my daughter's first choice is GC. I'm trying to sway her toward SJC or our local public, but she's been in love with GC since her visit. Dematha and GC are both a hike from where we live.
I think a lot of people pick based on geography/commute. Our oldest wanted to apply to GC and we said no way. It’s a great school and we could probably get her there but if she did any activity we would be fighting 270 to pick her up since we don’t live or work near there. Being able to take mass transit home was part of the high school criteria for me. My oldest is at SJC and it is wonderful that on an early release day she can get herself home and we aren’t stressed trying to juggle work schedules. When she took a summer class (1/2 day) she could get home on her own.
I was the previous poster about the twins. I’m literally 10 minutes from McNamara. The good thing is if my son goes to Dematha, the bus comes 5 minutes from my house. The GC bus is about 10 minutes but it’ll be about an hour 20 minute bus ride daily. Smh
