I would avoid McLean, Chantilly, and Oakton as they are all way overcrowded and have trailers everywhere.
OP here, Which ones do you recommend ? The registrars at Chantilly and Oakton definitely gave the impression that they are super crowded and didn’t want any HS tours. Or, I should say they sounded super stressed. McLean not at all though it’s a big school, teachers, front staff and kids all seemed so nice. Same at Langley.
I’d go for Madison or Langley. McLean is set to be way over capacity in the upcoming years. 20 trailers. If you toured it, you must have seen the trailer park. Personally I agree with the response you got from Chantilly and Oakton, I don’t want my public school administrators giving tours while my kids are in school. I find it creepy and unnecessary.
Yes we noticed the trailers and certainly it was crowded. However, everyone looked fine. The tour was led by a PTA mom and there were 3 other families along with us. This is a big move for families relocating to the area especially when their kids are in MS/HS. Everyone wants to tour to see what they are getting into. Most families tour universities before they apply, one of the many reasons, how will your kid fit in.
There is a LOT of self-help at McLean - teachers, administrators, students and local volunteers doing things for the school (signs, murals, artwork) that other schools rely on FCPS to do for them. FCPS leaders ignore the school and it thrives in spite of them.
I don't think there's any FCPS schools where it isn't teachers/students/locals doing murals and artwork....
Then you’d be wrong, apart from the artwork in art classes.
