No worse than apple tree Columbia heights, Mundo Verde p street, or lots of other schools with long wait lists.
Folks have had their cars broken into at MV8. Crimes of opportunity will happen anywhere in this city if you don't use good judgement (like leaving your purse in your car during drop off).
What does MV8 have to do with this post? MV P street is in very crime ridden area and the kids have to walk to playground. I’d also add that while MV8 is in a decent neighborhood, Turkey Thicket (where they play) is known to have more crime. Point is I wouldn’t have any more qualms sending kid to TRY than I would MVP.
The point is that crime happens everywhere, even in so-called safe areas like MV . If you use good judgment (and don't do stupid things like leaving your purse in your car), you should be fine. You were so quick to be offended that my post went over your head.
MV P Street is not remotely safe. Look at the crime stats around 1st and P. That was also the epicenter of the tainted K deaths last year. Not sure that's your baseline for safety...
I mentioned MV8 in the post, not MV P.
Right but the post right before you only mentioned MVP. The point that went over your head is not whether people should be smart but a lot of actual violent crime happens (during daylight) at MVP so if people have no qualms about attending MVP, they shouldn’t have any attending TRY.
Crimes stats or not. I feel much safer walking around the area of MVP than where TRY is located. There are no corner liquor stores, tons of people hanging out in front of them and on corners during the day, blocks after blocks of depressed and run down housing, drunk people sitting on the sidewalks or sleeping on the streets, etc....... OP I’m sure you have driven down by TRY and your hesitation sending your kid there. Hence your post.
I know what you’re implying and you’re simply being racist/classist. The fact of the matter is there are literally daytime shootings around MVP all the time. I don’t care how many more gentrifiers you see around MV, it is what it is. And the MV kids have to walk around there during the day to get to a playground. If you know anything about true gang violence, you’d know that depressed looking surroundings is not a big indicator of gang activity. It’s more about territory. Here are a few daytime shootings within blocks of MV. But you keep counting liquor stores and do you. North Capitol is literally one of the most violent streets on the east coast. https://mpdc.dc.gov/release/homicide-1100-block-north-capitol-street-northwest-0 https://wtop.com/dc/2019/01/police-man-fatally-shot-on-north-capitol-street-in-northwest-dc/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/man-critically-injured-in-shooting-near-new-york-avenue/2019/01/15/fa11604a-1904-11e9-9ebf-c5fed1b7a081_story.html https://www.popville.com/2020/01/615pm-shooting-in-truxton-circle-945pm-shooting-in-takoma/
Oh please, enough of the race card. Go to any area in a city with obvious high poverty and depressed housing and you will find more crime. It is what it is. You few cases above doesn’t prove anything.
It’s not a FEW cases. It’s literally just the first few of DAYTIME shootings around MV in the last year. Ok that you feel fine going to MV. Fact of the matter is it’s probably the most dangerous school location of most schools in DC and yes, that includes EOTR. Pull up the stats for violent crimes and tell me otherwise. Why are you so defensive about your school that you’re willing to ignore facts?
