You have all ridiculously gotten off the point of the OP‘s question. OP, the letter you received from your insurance company is cursory and is merely a formality when it comes to personal injury. Your insurance comes with a lawyer, actually a building full of lawyers who will work on your and their behalf to reach an equitable settlement with the other party that you have injured. Let your insurance company handle it, you don’t need to hire a lawyer, basically everything these posters have written to you is utter nonsense. When you reach your insurance company they will likely tell you exactly what I have.
Right, and the letter is also a heads-up that OP should get their ducks in a row. If the judgement goes in favor of the other party, OP will be on the hook for the remaining expenses. That means the other party can get a judgement to garnish their wages and put liens on their assets until it is paid off. OP's insurance's lawyers are only going to work for OP up to that $250k threshold. They have no incentive to work for OP to reduce the amount down to one that OP can afford. They do not work for OP. They work for the insurance company. OP will need their own lawyer to fight for them.
