My daughter is ahead of grade level in all subjects, but is very young for her grade. Her behavior tends to drop when she is tired of school and needs a break from structure and expectations. At her conference earlier this year her first grade teacher actually recommended giving her days off when she is fatigued with school. The teacher explained that it's better for her to take a day off occassionally, rather than for us to send a kid to school knowing that she's wound up and just going to get herself into trouble. We agree. She gets breaks as needed, maybe 2-3 a year.
I’m really surprised the teacher said that. As a parent, I would not let my child miss school because child needs a break. The kids have so many breaks. Every month there is a long weekend. Some months there are multiple long weekends. There is no shortage of breaks.
