If you roughhouse with your kids, and if you play games with them and joke around (including playing a scarf-around-the-neck game), then that's what they thought you were doing.

I play hard with my kids, wrestle, tumble, toss, joke and all and they would never punch or jump on me if I were passed out.  Sorry, OP's kids need ... something. [/quote]

I never allow my kids to play with scarves or anything around the neck but we do play "knocked out" with eyes closed.
