OP here - thanks for all of the suggestions. I will follow up bc I hate the idea that this scum bag owner thinks he can get away with this, likely to multiple people. The car seat is a Wayb Pico. Wayb has been phenomenal. I am floored bc they actually just fedexed me a new seat at zero cost as they saw my trail of emails and my receipt. I can’t believe it! I will also say that so far this seat is excellent. I had intended to use it primarily as a travel seat, but I have been using it to try it out before an upcoming trip, and am impressed. I highly recommend it, for the Wayb service alone!  If you’re not familiar with the seat, it is completely lightweight and folds to be pretty small, but is metal so safe. [/quote]
