He was with his first wife for a long time. He went to university at 17 (1988) and met her there. They started dating shortly after, married in 2000, and then had a baby who died of SIDS in 2002, twins in 2004, and triplets in 2006. (I hope they had a lot of help - 5 kids in 2 years, plus the loss of a child). They divorced in 2008 and two years later in 2010 he married his second wife. They divorced in 2016.

He has talked about his major abandonment issues and how he can't be alone. Having lots of kids is also common for people who lack love. He was raised mostly by his father after the divorce when he was 8. He describes his father as a horrible man, a criminal, and a sociopath. Of note, his 72 year old father had a child a couple years back with his own stepdaughter. Basically Elon had a pretty messed up childhood and sounds like he is is still a pretty messed up adult - emotionally.
