14:43 PP. Apparently Mick affects a Cockney/working class accent as part of his rocker persona. Earlier interviews he is heard using his decidedly more posh, proper British accent.
Yep. Contrary to their image, the Stones were from fairly posh backgrounds. The Beatles, on the other hand, weren't (with the exception of Lennon). George was from what he called the Liverpool equivalent of the Bowery, and Ringo was from practically a slum. Paul's neighborhood was a little better, but definitely working class. They just *seemed* a bit more put together (per the image Brian wanted them to portray).
Maybe compared to the Beatles, but Keith is from a very working class family and Mick’s was only slightly more posh. I don’t think Brian’s family was very posh, he was pretty trashy at a young age (impregnated several women before he was even 20 and didn’t recognize any as his kids).
At the end of the day, my understanding is the Beatles were from poorer backgrounds (except perhaps for John). Paul's mother died when he was a teenager, but she was a midwife and the primary wage earner. His father was a working musician. George's father was a bus driver and his mother was a factory worker; they lived in Speke (basically a housing project way out from the center of Liverpool). Ringo was raised by a single mother in the Dingle (a very, very rough area). After his father left, his mother worked cleaning houses and then as a barmaid. Though his father was a factory owner, Keith's grandparents were civic leaders who helped create the local Labour Party. Brian's parents were middle class; his father was an aeronautical engineer. Mick went to the London School of Economics, for pete's sake. You never hear about rock musicians (especially from that time) going to places like that for school. They rarely went to college at all (except for art college).
