I was disappointed. It was waaaay too long. Also, the whole movie feels so familiar - the guy who got in with the mob and rose through the ranks. They have good lives for a while, then face conflict, go to jail and then a few end up growing old. The rest get whacked. It’s like every other mafia movie - and I generally like those movies which is why I was excited to watch this one. That said, Pacino and Pesci were excellent. I also liked seeing so many other well-known actors in various roles.
It may feel familiar but it’s basically a true story. Interesting note about Joe Pesci: A friend of mine was on a Secret Service details at a fancy hotel in NY. He went up to Pesci and complimented him on his acting career and asked for an autograph. He said Pesci reacted by swearing at him and told him he only signs autographs at charity events and to leave him alone. The bellhop at the hotel witnessed the exchange and told my friend that Pesci is one of the most nasty miserable people he’s ever seen come through the hotel...
