I used to coach and also had an instructor in an activity who felt I wasn't trying hard enough. She was so critical and harsh I began to freeze whenever I had my (private) lessons which made everything worse. How she spoke to me was also very different than the girl before me. I could not spend 6-8h/day in middle school and high school practicing like the homeschooled girl... I switched and did much better. All that said, check the objective level of the harshness of feedback. The coach should admonish, not scold. [/quote]
