Sweet potatoes were indeed no problem. I was allowed 30 gm carbs for full meals (15 gm for snacks), and a small sweet potato is about 25 gm, so with broccoli & chicken it got me right to 30. They have a lot of fiber, maybe that’s why they are ok? Or maybe I was just lucky with them. Normal potatoes, on the other hand, were a disaster.... And my Russian friend says the grain she gave me was buckwheat.
I had GD twice, both times diet and exercise controlled. First time around I could’ve done the diet you listed, no problem. Second time was so much more challenging and I was diagnosed by week 12. I eventually had to cut almost all carbs out. Absolutely no grain or rice of any type unless a small bite, only small servings of low sugar fruit, no sweet potatoes, no yogurt even if it was low or unsweetened. It really sucked and I asked for insulin towards the end because it was so tough to maintain a diet that strict but at that point I was so close and 4 weeks away that they encouraged me to just try a little bit longer. I definitely cheated the final week of my pregnancy. All this to say OP is try these suggestions and see what happens with your sugars. If they spike then you know you might need to cut out yogurt, sweet potatoes, etc. and know also over time something you used to be able to eat and not spike now will spike—that’s normal as you near the end. Oh and make sure you walk after meals or exercise if you can!! I will say a huge pro this pregnancy is that I only gained 12 pounds. Dr wasn’t concerned because baby always measured fine. 2 weeks postpartum I was below my prepregnancy weight and in my normal clothes. This despite going carb crazy as soon as I gave birth. My mom brought me my favorite cake after I delivered and I ate two slices a day until it was gone.... :P
