I hope CPS is involved. The parents need to be in jail for making a loaded handgun that available.
IF the parent new about it and IF they were the ones not taking proper safety measures then yes they may be facing legal action. But there are many other ways a tween could have acquired a knife and a hand gun. He could have gotten them from a friend, another family members home with or without permission, stolen them or purchased them off the street etc. What is frightening like in all the school shooting violence is the premeditation getting and bringing the gun to school. As well as security not finding it prior to this point. I know most dcps high schools have metal detection and security checks. Do the middle schools?? (I was horrified when I first learned dcps high schools had them, it just made it feel like a prison and made me think of the school to prison pipe line. But with all the shootings and things like this maybe it is valid proactive option. Of course that doesn't mean the pipeline is acceptable or doesn't need changing but that is another but maybe related post). I hope every one involved gets the support they need to move through this experience and come out as healed as possible. CPS will get involved and conduct a interview either way.
