Looking for kids with similar stats in last couple of years and where they got accepted and rejected. 33/34 ACT 3.9 GPA (private does not weight) very good ECs no major national awards, not curing cancer or starting a non profit interested in where similar kids got in without hooks thanks
Unweighted 3.9 GPA at our private is almost impossible to get. Are you at a big 3?
They are likely out of the dc area, which is why most of the information on this board has become irrelevant and unreliable.
In DC-- not a big 3, but pretty high in her class so 3.9 is also rare at our school. Asking because on College Confidential, am basically told to apply to Ohio State, Pitt and Rutgers....not sure why with these stats folks think better ranked schools are not in reach...was just wondering where kids around here were getting into...thanks
An unweighted 3.9 is basically all As with just one or two A-s. Is it honors classes? If so that is quite a hand to play. I would have DC apply to Pitt rolling (or identify a public college in the 40-50 range that DC likes) to have a realistic school lined up. Then, I would have DC apply to a USNews top 30 or US News top 20 SLAC for early round. I would VISIT that school (if you havent already) to demonstrate interest. If DC attends a private you should have a sense of what the counselors thinks of DC how they will package her/him. If there is a double legacy to Harvard in the class who is applying early, be realistic and skip it. If there are certain top 30 schools where kids have been admitted in recent years, apply there bc the college has a familiarity with your school. If deferred/rejected, I would then target 5-6 of US News top 30/SLAC top 20, with a focus on 10-30 and 10-20 ranked schools for the regular round. I would also apply to 2-3 US News 30-50/SLACs 20-30 schools. Again I would visit as many schools DS applies to as possible. Noone can tell you which ones he/she will get in for sure, its somewhat a lottery. You should be good for at least one. And at the end of the day DC can only attend one.
thank you-- this is helpful
