The locals we met recommended Barranquilla for beaches (where Shakira is from), or maybe the beaches in between Cartagena and Barranquilla, I can't remember.

I would go to Cartagena if you know what you are getting into, and you are running out of places to visit.

Sounds like you had a horrid trip. Have you traveled elsewhere in Latin America? Just curious whether the issues you experienced are unique to Cartagena. And how exactly were you scammed so I know what to look out for?[/quote]
