Natalie wanted to BE Caroline, not be Caroline's friend. But I do agree that Caroline used her and treated her like an afterthought.
The story of Natalie needing to leave her apartment sickened me. She asks Caroline if she can stay in her vacant apartment for a while, Caroline agrees, but at the last minute says no, but I’ll pay you to be a maid when I rent it out. That behavior borders on sociopathic.
I mean, I definitely see a mean rich girl and a user who saw Natalie as an inferior rather than a friend and an equal. But a sociopath? I don't really see it. She didn't owe Natalie access to her apartment. And Natalie was free to say no to the aidbnb maid thing - and did say no, without their "friendship" suffering.
Their friendship did suffer, as a result of the request rather than the refusal. I would argue that Caroline has a lot of the qualities of a sociopath. Shallow charm, empty friendships, taking advantage of people, lack of empathy, grandiose self regard...
