My son has chickenpox. He was vaccinated so the case is mild (about 50-60 bumps). He broke out in the rash on Saturday and was diagnosed today. Doctor thinks he won’t be contagious on Friday and will take him back to the doctor then to get a final ruling on if he’s contagious or not. That night we have a flight to Georgia planned for a wedding. If the doctor says he doesn’t think he’s still contagious, would you let him fly? It will be 6 days after the bumps appeared.
Repeating the post because people are forgetting that the OP is taking the child to the Doctor to get the Doctor's ruling on if the child is contagious or not. I would not take the child on the plane or to the wedding even if the Doctor said he was not contagious because I think that it would be an uncomfortable flight for your child. He could be itchy or just lethargic after fighting off an illness. If the Doctor said he was not contagious and you decide to take him, I would make sure to have a note from the Doctor. I am not sure that I would fly even if the Doctor said he wasn't contagious just in case he was. There will be people flying who might not be able to be vaccinated for a number of reasons and think that the risk of spreading the illness is greater on a plane. If this is a close family member and you really want to go perhaps you should look at driving. I know it is a long drive and that you have paid for plane tickets but that would be safer for everyone at the airport and on the plane.
