"Washington" they know, but some who know US geography slightly well will ask if it's Washington state, so I say "Washington DC" to avoid ambiguity. Do you know what major international capital city is referred to as "DF"? I bet most people don't, which is why residents of that city use the full name when mentioning their city.[/quote]
