This is completely bizarre. Are you living in 1950? My kid calls their teachers by their first names. The students at her school are the most kind and respectful kids I have ever encountered - even the middle-schoolers.[/quote]

Nope, I am a professor.  I expect to be called by my title.  You are not helping your children and friends by calling you by your first name.  My children are not allowed to do that to anyone.  And once they are in the habit they will do it at school and embarrass themselves.  There are etiquette rules.  Get a book;.  There are a lot made for children as well. Show some respect[/quote]

I am a grown up woman with a masters degree. Which is the terminal degree for my industry.

I want to be called Emily because that is my name it makes me uncomfortable for people to call me Miss Emily or Miss Doe. It would be uncouth for people to continue to call me something that I have told them I do not prefer[/quote]
