Most pools I go to have [b]etiquette guidelines that swimmers split the lane if there are two of them or that they circle if there are three or more[/b]. Maybe they can’t wait if they have to get to work/an appointment/other event. Swimming lanes aren’t like exercise machines ie multiple people can use a lane.

This is what my pool does.  You don't get your own lane if there are multiple people who want to swim laps.  You have to share.  I actually prefer to circle rather than split if there are two because I am used to the circle approach from swim team when I was a kid.[/quote]
