So stop doing what you're doing. You can still visit without doing all that. "Hey guys, I was thinking of taco night for when you come next week. I'm going to provide X, Y, and Z. Jane, can you pick up a bag of chips and some salsa; Dan, can you bring a 6-pack of Corona; Blair, can you bring brownies or some other type of dessert? We can't wait to see you!" I don't believe for one second that y'all go through 48 soda cans. That being said, if you only stock 12 soda cans, guess what? Only 12 would be consumed. If you only make 2 burgers a person, and tell them that there are two burgers a person, guess how many burgers they'll eat? Are you staying around for 12 hours? Don't do that. Say hello, hang out for a bit, then when they're in a groove with your kids, go run an errand or head upstairs to fold laundry or do whatever you want. Or hand your kids $20 each and send them out to have dinner outside of the house. Come on. Engineer things a bit. Are you this hapless and non-resourceful at work?
I guarantee you they do go through all that soda. Every time I hear the cans open I cringe. I was always raised to be a good host and to make sure everyone is full.
Well, dummy, then stop complainng. If you think good host = providing endless amounts of any conceivable thing, then welcome to your life, and stop complaining. Like, it's hard to even try to talk sense with someone who stocks 48 sodas on the reg. If I were hosting a pizza party for this group of grown-ass adult FREQUENT visitors, here's what it would look like: I'm providing pizza, salad, and a normal amount of non-alcoholic drinks: like maybe 12 sodas, a bottle of sparkling water, and a pitcher of lemonade My shiftless adult kids, who apparently live with mommy and daddy = beer run Kevin = please bring a bottle of wine Jane = please bring a dessert John = please bring an appetizer Either these grown adults are asked to contribute, and/or you stop stocking 48 sodas (insane), or you accept what is and stop complaining.
