claiming you value BCC diversity while living in the incredibly white Bethesda/Chevy Chase area and going to one of the least diverse feeder patterns in the County, state and metro is sort of like claiming you love Mexican food because you had a Latino Uber driver take you home after a dinner from an Irish Pub. Say what you want but everyone of your actions sort of says the opposite let alone rationalizing to the point where the think BCC diversity is some how exemplary in a rapidly browning county. I don't have a problem with people loving the area as it is simply lovely, but it is just a farce and BS to claim it is about the diversity in anyway. The average Somerset kid will most likely never go a poor minority's house or really any non-millionaires.
You’re welcome to look at the data McPS publishes-Somerset is more diverse than Woodacres and BCC is more diverse than Whitman. I’m a person of color and chose Somerset over a Whitman feeder because it’s more diverse and closer to metro and our DC jobs and we wanted to minimize our commutes. Somerset is a lovely school. It’s so well resourced in so many ways.
the marginal amount of diversity at Somerset doesn’t mean it is diverse. Also good to know the world is made of POC and PWOC
Diversity is subjective, it is true, but Woodacres is far less diverse than Somerset, which has a lot of international students from embassies, the World Bank etc. Some people diversity will choose Somerset for that reason. But both are rated Great Schools 9, and are fine schools from what I hear. https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/regulatoryaccountability/glance/currentyear/schools/02405.pdf https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/regulatoryaccountability/glance/currentyear/schools/02417.pdf Somerset % white-63%, % FARMS 7.4%, ESOL 17.3% Woodacres % white-68%, % FARMS <5% (not reported), ESOL 7.2%
Wood Acres has many embassy, world bank, imf families ... I suspect Westbtook does as well. Both areas pop right along Mass Ave!
No one said it didn't, but Somerset has more. Look at the ESOL data.
