OP here. I cant run. Both knees have a torn meniscus. I power walk 45 minutes 4 mornings a week. I do Pilates for abdominals 2x per week and yoga 2 times per week. I don't think I need weights -- all those down dogs, headstands, shoulder stands, handstands, and planks do the same thing -- right? (My arms and shoulders look absolutely fab.) 1200 calories per day. Hmm. So you are saying a person needs to eliminate 800 calories per day to show any weight loss at all? I need to ask my dietician that one. Can anyone cite evidence to what they are recommending? Or is this all from personal experience? I think I will have my thyroid tested.
I would not consider yoga a weights class even though there is some weight bearing. I've done yoga for 20 years and just started lifting weights a few months ago - it's a world of difference. I've also lost about 20 lbs between the weights, lowering my calories, and doing Intermittent fasting. Yoga has never had any impact on weight loss for me. It's not supposed to be exercise...
I disagree with your opinion about yoga. Maybe you're doing it wrong?
