As a 2008/U11 (now rising-U12) parent from another NCSL club, hopefully I can post something of some merit. DD's team has played a total of eight games against MSI teams (I know the results from six of those meetings). Based on **posted** results, it seems that the Academy Green and White teams are fairly equal. If MSI's program is truly leveraging the academy style, it would make sense that players flow between the teams … ideally, in the best interest of the individual player's development. In an effort to understand the 2008 girls' landscape, I started tracking YouthSoccerRankings scores for DC area teams back in October. Here's a spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1E87UHxv3e0SG0zFE7zYfGk0u-FlkIt9qSq8hL3sNMp8 I've tried to update the data once a month, and before/after major tournament weekends. (I'm waiting for one more NCSL result to post before refreshing the data for June. I have a June 1st post-tournament update that I haven't posted online). As of June 1st, White was a few percentage points ahead of Green (22.67 vs. 22.34). As of today, the gap has widened slightly (22.83 vs. 22.37). Using YSR's logic, if the two teams played each other, you can expect a result with a one-goal differential (or less … as in, a tie). For the Spring 2019 season, Green played in NCSL Division 2, while White played in NCSL Division 3. At the time, I found that placement/relegation to be odd, given that White was in the top division in the preceding Fall 2018 season (finishing with a 4-4-1 record). Green finished 4-4-0 in the second NCSL division in the Fall. Looking at the YSR scores heading into the Spring season, both teams fell squarely into the second division (again, the YSR scores claim that the two teams are basically equal). I'm guessing the club (or the league) didn't want both teams in the same division, so they "kept" Green in Div. 2 and dropped White from Div. 1 to Div. 3. At the conclusion of the Spring season, Green's results place them near the middle of Div. 2, while White finished atop Div. 3. White's finish is probably more evidence that they really belonged in Div. 2 anyway. It may also be worth noting, that White just played in the Embassy Cup against two U12 teams (both from Great Falls-Reston), one Potomac U11 squad, and the U10 Super Y team from ?Bethesda?. Green participated in the Virginian at the end of May.
Yes, it was definitely weird/odd why the White Team was placed in Division 3 based upon Fall 2018 NCSL Season results.
