I get $50 an hour for just childcare. I have an advanced degree and am supposed to speak Mandarin to my charges so they get an immersion experience but no formal tutoring is required. I also cook breakfast, snacks and lunch for them. My health insurance is through my husband but employers offered it. I get 2 weeks paid vacation
So you are a nanny, cook, and dishwasher? Good use of an advanced degree.
Well let’s see, she’s making $50/hr...
Right, but for how long and how much job security is there in the nanny field? I didn't bust my butt off going to school forever to be someone's cook and wash their dishes. $50/hr isn't that much in the grand scheme of things especially in this area.
You are assuming she is living in DC. And you clearly didn’t calculate what $50/hr comes out to. Most nannies are full time employees so she is looking at close to $100k a year. That’s a good amount for this area. Not to mention she said she was married. Unless you are part of a union no job is secure. Hey if you don’t cook for your family or clean your house that’s on you. You chose a different path and that’s working for you. This woman chose her path and seems to be doing very well.
