A lot of leagues won't allow it. My daughter chose not to try out for McLean because they wouldn't allow kids to play for other clubs or teams while playing for McLean travel. We did ASA Travel plus Rec for one year - my daughter loved her rec team and didn't want to leave it. We only had 1 conflict each season, and had to pick travel over rec in those cases. She was on a lower team. We then moved back to ADP and we've done ADP plus rec for four seasons. Every season we have a conflict or two and we generally favor ADP unless rec really needs us and ADP is ok without us. I'd estimate that 2/3 of the girls on our ADP team are also on rec teams because they still enjoy playing with their friends. ASA changed the rules so that we can't have travel players anymore, which is fine. We'd cut our travel girls from the roster last year because there were too many conflicts and we needed the roster spots for girls who could/would actually show up. (these were higher level travel girls.) Travel + Rec worked for us mainly because the games tended to be on different days. The practice schedule got to be a bit much sometimes - 4 days a week. And if you had a far-out travel game, it made it hard to show up for a rec game. ASA + Rec games are mostly on Saturday, so Saturdays are sometimes hellish for us - we're often running from one venue to another with 15 minutes between games. And you have to get the practice schedules to work out. But at least all the games are in Arlington.
+1
