You probably get a few paid holidays right? Our pay is divided to give equal paychecks during the year but those days are not contract days so we do not get paid. Hence, not vacation.[/quote]

Public school teacher and now principal--almost 30 years total--here. Come on, PP. Yes, it is vacation in the eyes of the world, including educators. You're not working and can enjoy the time as you please.  Please stop with quibbling with semantics. It's not a good look. [/quote]

NP But When people think of vacation they generally think of paid time off work. Summer and spring break for teachers are nice to have time away from work, to be sure, but they should not be referred to as vacation as they are unpaid. Also many teachers have to find jobs during the summer to make ends meet. Most working professionals would not have to work a 2nd job during their vacation time. It’s a different situation.[/quote]
