Yes, a 12 pack is way to much on a regular basis, especially beer that high in alcohol content. You won’t find a single doctor who’s ok with his drinking situation. Most alcoholic’s or people with alcohol related medical issues all started out in a similar way of denial.
Doctor here. You’ve met me! I teach my medical students that talking about addiction is more about the problems the drug is causing in someone’s life than it is about the amount they are using. What I would want to know is if he is missing work, missing out on responsibility around the house, OP is beggging him to quit or has threatened divorce, he has gotten a DUI, put the kids in danger because he was intoxicated, etc.
He is fine as far as those things you brought up. He never misses, is late with kids. No DUIs. He never drinks and drives, he's lost a few relatives from drunk drivers so he takes drinking and driving seriously. . He occasionally has a beer in the afternoon, but he usually does his drinking at night time when the kids are asleep and we are watching Netflix. He is in good shape. He is 5'10 and very fit. Eats healthy and drinks healthy otherwise. I'm just worried about the long term health risks.
