OP here. Appreciate the advice. I think it is interesting that we, as women on this forum, have come up with half a dozen ways of self administering a shot, rather than questioning why an insurance company can’t set us up with home heath care services if we’re not able to self-administer. I have been told it’s a state lines issue with the prescription even if my nurse here faxes the rX. If I were a diabetic and needed my shots, you can bet my insurance company would have found a provider to help me out. Doesn’t this seem strange or possibly discriminatory to anyone?
I think you expecting an insurance company to cover the cost of having a health aide administer a shot is unrealistic. Diabetics learn how to administer shots as needed. Same as people who require epinephrine pens. Or people undergoing treatment for hepatitis C. Or people who take injectable blood thinners. Or people who take hormone injections. You get the idea. Doing your own injections is certainly not a fun thing, but it is pretty simple. You just have to screw up the courage if you are afraid of needles and go for it. Ask for a tutorial from your nurse before your trip. Watch YouTube videos. Try a couple times at home with a partner or somebody who can help build up your courage. I don’t want to belittle your needle anxiety, or the fear you may have about the process, but I will tell you that pregnancy, delivery, and post care is going to be a lot rougher than giving yourself a little needle prick once during a work trip. Again, not trying to bash you, but rather encourage you in a realistic way. You’ve got this!
