Different poster.  I don't like all the "your DD is slow" crap.  I also don't like the trolling on the flip side.  I actually think the split age group helps.  Now Spirit can do away with the EDP concept, which is the most tragic thing I have ever seen.  That was poorly conceived, poorly run, and I feel genuinely bad for those players.  I would never have accepted it for my kid.  Now, you are either DA or you aren't.  They can put the PT players with GFR, which is what should have happened all along.  Also, every age group has overly large rosters with a portion of players that should not have been placed at this level.  They lack the ability to compete at this level.  It doesn't mean they are bad players or that they could never make it.  However, it doesn't help them to develop by placing them so far beyond what they can do.  It actually breaks their confidence.  So, we trim the players that aren't there yet and if they still want a pipeline to Spirit, they can join GFR.

Then you stop playing players up.  This makes the at age team competitive and helps the team the play ups were on by also making them more competitive.  That will change the record for most of the teams.  Some teams are clearly struggling regardless, but every club has an age group that isn't very impressive.  [/quote]

However, I disagree with you on the impact of the 16/17 split. WS does not have depth. Even at clubs with depth, the 16/17 split will have a significant impact.

The split at WS VA will cause a vacuum effect by pulling up kids from the age group below to cover. The only other scenario is to bring in a large number of players.

It might.  It depends on a few factors, so I can't unequivocally say there is no issue.  Here's my math on this:  there are currently about 14 full time DA 2003s, if I exclude EDP players.  (I don't know their situation).  In fact, WS VA's U17 team is largely 2003s, even though the reverse is true for many DA clubs, like let's say Cedar Stars as an example.  The plan is tighter rosters, and I have seen clubs with that small a roster.  NYC FC definitely keeps it small, as an example.  There are currently about 20 full time DA 2004s, if I exclude EDP players and players who left.  And of those 20, with smaller rosters, some will likely be cut.  So, the only problem will be if the 19s don't have enough, and have to pull up 2003s which in turn pulls up 2004s.  I don't know their situation.  Do they have players coming in?  Do they plan to give some space for GFR players?  I also don't know if Spirit has planned a closer relationship with GFR.  I have seen more involvement from them this spring.  We even scrimmaged one of their boys' teams.

That's also excluding any players coming in that I may not know about.

The 2005s will have no issues.  That's a strong group that just needs a thinner roster and then it wouldn't be an answer for us to get the forward who plays up back on the team.  We could be a U15 play off team IMHO.

I guess we will have to see how it plays out, and if the 2006s can be transformed and how the 2007s turn out.  [/quote]
