Also had:
Additional work samples - doesn’t sound like much but they were very strong work done between referral deadline and appeals time, included strong math.
A parent letter - was able to say more than in the half-page or so box on the parent referral form, including highlighting strong math and lack of advanced math at base until 5th grade. WISC subscores also tied into this very nicely.

I can’t say if I had done WISC alone if it would have been successful, but maybe. I do think the whole appeals packet we submitted was cohesive and made a strong case as a whole, with the WISC to back it up.

As for first round, I think it was just a judgement call 50/50 perhaps? I could maybe argue the initial decision was “wrong” but again hard to say. Scores were below cutoff but obly just barely. High GBRS (teens). Better work samples on appeal but decent ones first round. Who knows but I think the final decision was appropriate in our case and not just hey you appealed so you’re in.[/quote]
