I was given the Medela Symphony Pump, which is hospital grade, to borrow when my son was born but he had jaundice and difficulty gaining weight. I had to return it after a month and tried really hard with all the reasons to keep it longer but it was a no go. I switched to the Ameda and even though the transition sucked, I got use to it. I was able to pump at work and exclusively breastfeed until my son was 15 months old. It may work well for you, I’d try it first before buying something else.
Same here... I got to rent the Symphony for a month because DS wasn't gaining weight quickly enough, but then switched over to the freebie Ameda that I got from Kaiser when the rental period was up. The Ameda worked fine for me; actually, it worked better in terms of milk output than the Symphony. But it was so LOUD. I came to dread turning it on because of that loud honking noise it made. I only ended up BF'ing until DS was 5 months for various reasons, but if I had chosen to go longer, I probably would've used HSA money to spring for the Symphony or a quieter pump.
