Dying is a certainty, not a remote chance.  And people do, unfortunately, die unexpectedly all the time- heart attack, aneurysm, stroke, cardiac arrest, fast moving sepsis (a friend's mother, who was in her 60s and lived alone, actually died from sepsis brought on by a common infection and went from "Gosh, I can't kick this fever and sore throat!! Maybe i'll go to the doctor tomorrow" to dead within a span of about 12 hours.  Imagine if she were a single mom and just went unconscious on the couch while her baby was in the crib and no one noticed for days?)  The only reason my friend's mother was found before days and days went by was because a friend came by for a pre-scheduled dinner that evening and found her near death and called 911.    Anyways the point is, everyone dies and if you live alone with a small child it's absolutely a smart idea to have a check-in plan in place especially if you dont' think your workplace would notice immediately (work from home, etc) or if it happened over a weekend even [/quote]
