I've thought about this. The best solution would be to live in a larger house, where he can have his own areas to mess up and clean up, make the noise he wants (that man cannot be quiet), yet still be available.
I'd like to have a second kitchen my wife can mess up all she wants. How many times do I have to organize the dang cabinets and then every time I open them I STILL find Sriracha amongst the wine glasses and nine different kid party favors amongst the Advil.
My Mom wants to live in a duplex with her on one side, my Dad on the other. With a window between the two that she can slide the meals through. But his mess stays his mess. LOL
Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton did this. They owned adjoining houses and lived separately. Of course, they also split up after 13 years, so maybe it's not the best solution.
Didn't Salvador Dali and his wife do that too? I also sometimes dream of having my own apartment to go whenever I feel like it. It would be full of snacks that I don't have to share, a bathtub that's all mine and I can sleep as long as I want and watch Netflix. I would go home to DH and the kids when I feel like it.
