If the contract says "two weeks notice" and you give more than that (severance, or pay for time without working) for at least that time period, you cannot be faulted. If there ever comes back any blowback, you were abiding the contract. People are also less likely to be vengeful if you can't be faulted by the contract -- still might be, but it's harder for them to feel justified. The severance is peace of mind. It's cheap. She won't be in your personal space or taking care of your kids, and you can feel okay about moving forward without second-guessing whether you cheated her.[/quote]
