So Sidwell families are not good at answering hypotheticals which may or may not relate to their own personal circumstance?

I will attempt to answer even though my child goes to another competitive private. I think this boils down to 2 factors: 1) How painful is paying the ever increasing private school tuition. Would your money be better used to pay for college/post graduate education? 2) Where do you think you child will be most happy/fulfilled? Are they more likely to want to major in computer science at MIT or be prelaw at University of Chicago?[/quote]

Every jurisdiction has a public school magnet except Alexandria.

1)  We can pay for Sidwell and college and post-grad.   Because we've made sacrifices elsewhere.   
2) Sidwell is a decent all-purpose education, including preparation in the hard sciences/CS  For the very small percentage of kids who absolutely know at age 10 that they will want MIT/Cal Tech eight years from now, then targeting Blair/TJHSST while still in elementary school makes sense.
