My child was one of the ones who was waitlisted. Her verbal and essay scores were higher than the median admitted scores for RMIB, so I'm pretty confident that they didn't "lower the bar for admission." The investigation did not show that any of the students who had been accepted had somehow cheated the system, but it did lead the central office to question the opaque and seemingly arbitrary process that had led to the selection of some students over others.  It's my understanding that now the criteria for admission are more transparent and test scores are shared with the students. [/quote]

Not disparaging anyone, just trying to make the point that by admitting 100, the 75 most deserving applicants should be admitted without the need for retesting.

There's the possibility your DC was on the waitlist because someone already admitted had an extremely high verbal score.  The RMIB students couldn't blow off the math test and get admitted, so they have those median scores [i]and[/i] good math scores.  Regardless, with those scores, in any other year, your DC probably would have been pulled from the waitlist just the same.[/quote]
