We have a slightly younger kid.  Yes, he knows.  He helped install it when we remodeled the basement. Its an Amazon brand camera we got for $60. It faces the back door and main seating area (we mostly got it for safety/monitoring but watching him when he and/or his friends is a bonus).  Its clear its there as its in the open and has a light on it.   We can see it from our phone and talk through it (he does it to us when we are down there).  We do go down as laundry and other stuff is down there but we have a smaller house so we can hear them too.[/quote]
